'Bypass' secateurs use a combination of a sharp cutting blade with a non-cutting blade which move 'past' each other to produce a clean cut.
Top Tip
If you’re using your secateurs to cut away diseased material from your plants then remember you’ll need to disinfect the blades after use. Simply wipe the blades with a cloth soaked in methylated spirits and you can then use them elsewhere in the garden without the chance of spreading disease.
Tools with carbon steel blades benefit from staying sharp for a long time and being easy to sharpen when they do become dull.
